Thank you for visiting Debbie Holmes for Congress:
I'm Debbie Holmes, and I am the Democratic nominee for Congress in Idaho's Second Congressional District. I am a trained chemist, mother of three and work as a real estate agent.
In my campaign, I've been focusing on the financial crisis, coupled with the healthcare crisis, which has led us to the brink of economic collapse. Throwing money at the banks in the hopes that it will trickle down to financially devastated homeowners will not solve the crisis. Each time a homeowner loses their home while waiting for legislation, the American Dream is turned into the American Nightmare for another family in our country. Many Americans' financial problems start with a medical crisis.
A large proportion of us do not have health insurance. First we lose our health, then our jobs, then our insurance (if we have it in the first place), then our homes. Under our current system, we penalize the sick. We also prevent innovation because people are afraid to start businesses or leave dead-end jobs if it means losing their insurance. When people are ill they should focus on their recovery, not worry about their finances. We need healthcare for all Americans that is not connected to our workplace.
The next Congress needs to deal with issues ranging from climate change, the housing crisis, the ever-rising cost of energy, healthcare, to the human and financial cost of the endless war in Iraq. Republicans have had 7 and a half years to address these issues, and have failed. I hope I can count on your support in the primary on May 27 and throughout this year.
Please give me your vote. I am the progressive candidate in this race, I have real solutions to the current financial crisis, where the Republicans have only vague generalizations, and I look forward to beating Mike Simpson this fall on the issues.
